Not sure where to start? Answer a few questions and get the top programs and tools worth checking first.
How to use this tool
This navigator is for seniors and caregivers who are not sure where to start. It does not decide eligibility. It sorts your answers into practical next steps, such as food help, Medicare cost help, utility help, housing help, dental help, home repair help, or local senior support.
The fastest path is usually not one program. Many seniors need a mix of help. For example, a person with a high utility bill may also need LIHEAP contacts, weatherization help, and a local Area Agency on Aging. A person with Medicare costs may need a Medicare Savings Program, Extra Help, and free counseling from SHIP.
What to do next
- Print your result: Use it as a call plan before you contact agencies.
- Call the right office: If the issue is urgent, call 211 or the Eldercare Locator at 1-800-677-1116.
- Check documents early: Most delays happen because proof of income, address, Medicare, rent, or bills is missing.
- Apply even if close: Many programs count income differently, and some states use broader rules.
Reality checks
Some programs are fast, such as food pantries, 211 referrals, crisis utility help, or emergency legal aid. Other programs take longer, especially housing vouchers, senior apartments, home repair programs, and Medicaid waiver services. This tool is meant to help you choose the best first calls instead of clicking through many state pages without a plan.
